Introduction

With the announcement of the four pillars of growth – 1 Malaysia, Government Transformation Programme (GTP), Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and the Tenth Malaysia Plan (10MP), the Government is determined to spur the country's ambition in attaining high income nation with developed status by 2020, creating a powerful momentum to motivate change and a holistic roadmap to go forward. It is without doubt that structural transformation is a critical strategy to drive growth and achieve vision. To propel transformation, the government's primary challenge will be to ensure that the private sector, SMEs in particular, continues to expand and be stimulated to boost domestic productivity levels and generate new source of wealth.

Taking cognizance of the importance of Malaysia SMEs as the building blocks of our nation's economic growth, SMEs must be placed in the centre of economic transformation – creating positive value for the economy, providing employment, driving demand, contributing towards sustainable economic growth and social stability.

Indeed, transformation lies at the core of making strategic changes for the better in an energetic, enthusiastic and passionate approach on an ongoing basis. In the business world, it is a key initiative to move up the value chain and achieve corporate vision by improving the way business works, embracing new technology, building human capital and implementing effective operation processes. These elements are the pre-requisites to drive greater productivity, efficiency, competitiveness and profitability so as to stay relevant in today's rapidly changing global economy.

In this essence, business agility, or the ability to achieve transformation, is therefore a true measure of both management and corporate success.
